Absolutely beautiful work, I love how you have kept the graphic styling of comic book art but worked it up into a painting. WOW! :D

Hey Mr. Mayhew, I'm just getting into watercolors and acrylics and I way wondering if you could help me out? One thing is how do you keep the comic paper from warping. What do you do or use to make the smooth transfer between layers. Any other tips would be nice too. Thanks!

I would recommend painting on 140lb watercolor paper, instead of bristol board comic paper. You will notice a major difference. You have to cut it yourself from 22X30 sheets generally. I like Arches or Fabriano, and I like it hot press, which is very smooth.

A wonderful piece as always.
My only issue with this one is that the white highlight on her leg looks so unnatural compared to the rest of the piece.

Nice. It's interesting that you mention using poser. I'll be curious to see how you use that for ref. I tried an early version and just couldn't get a handle on it.

nice form, good pose. The look on her face makes the picture come alive with the action that is going on. The colors are classic Xmen. The only thing i have noticed that is a wee bit off is HER left eye looks a bit bigger than HER right eye. Otherwise Mike another great piece.

I think that kind of makes it a bit more realistic looking. Like an imperfection.

How long, on average, does it take you to do a cover?

I like to piddle around with it for about a week. Usually, not the only thing I'm working on, and there are stages of sketches I send for approval, especially when doing a traditional painting.

hi Mike, great work as ususal, What I wanna ask is you always have models for your work?

Usually use models, though I'm starting to get into poser now. Still can't beat a real person for personality and expression.
