Hi, Mike!

First things first--since I'm a major fan of the Blonde Bombshell, this beauty caught my eye immediately upon viewing your gallery, so I'm already in love with the piece! Time to get down to work:

Vision – Since you labeled it as a study, I assume you're either a) preparing to do a more complete version in your usual style of watercolors plus airbrush or b) doing a tight sketch thinking out how you would render your take on the character.

Originality – Since it's the Black Canary, showing her doing her sonic whammy is a standard approach to the character. However, seeing her done in your photorealistic way, to me, is what makes this really stand out! Also working for me is that you chose to do her in her Silver Age bolero jacket and fishnets circa 1970/80's Dick Dillin. To me, Dick was THE MAN! And this is THE version that I enjoy most.

Technique – I know you often work with models, and it looks like you done that here. Your pencil rendering is fabulous! Not only did you show proper lighting on the figure, you've also delivered excellent texturing of her costume. You obviously took time to decide how her suit should fit her--shoulder pads in the jacket, how much seaming should show in her corset, the fishnets have a wider "patterned tights" appearance rather than an actual pair of fishnet hose. Having her hair flow, giving her the original "Veronica Lake" look was an added stroke of genius. You also get major kudos for giving the overall look some balance by tightly rendering the figure and leaving the background very non-existent, just showing the force of her scream.

Impact – I love it! I've already mentioned that I'm a major Canary fan since I began reading Dillin's classic JLA when I was a kid. You gave me beauty without forcing cheesecake; not many comic artists can do that. But then, I don't consider you to be a comic artist. You're a photorealistic artist who works in comics, such as Mr. Ross...

Deviousness – According to my math, you averaged 3.75 stars. I'm rounding up to four. I only wish you take this to the next step and do this in color! Better yet, I gotta get make some major green and commission a version!

The movement in this piece is fantastic, the flowing hair is gorgeous. And her expression and body language is a refreshing change from the usual tough Black Canary^^
