Pre-order Zorro: Matanzas (Dynamite February 2010)

Thu Dec 3, 2009, 11:45 AM
Finally, my finest Zorro work, unpublished for 12 years, is coming to a comic store near you!

Zorro: Matanzas was originally intended to be issues 12-15 of mine and Don McGregor's run on Zorro for Topps back in '97. Bad times for the comic industry hit Topps hard and the comics line was cut before the book was published.

This book is amongst my finest work, and it's where my art and stortelling reached a new level. The story by Don McGregor is the absolute best of the run, with so much action and drama on every page it's incredible. It also features my very first cover paintings.

The hand coloring of Sam Parsons and hand lettering of the legendary John Costanza give this book a truly unique look with craftmanship lost in today's digital age. It's a "lost episode" from an influential creative team for one of the greatest adventure characters of all time, ZORRO!

Pre-order your copy at your local comic store, or at the link below:

Thanks for looking,

Mike

If I'm guessing right I would say that you work with acrylics much more like a watercolorist would. Acrylics can be used thicker (like oils) or thinner (like watercolors). I tend to work thicker, it cuts down on some of the details (which you are great at), but to me it gives my work more of a textured vibrant look. What do you think?

Took your advice and tried to go with a directional lighting for my latest piece. I also double checked my anatomy. It's a pencil piece, but I'm trying to develop my own penciling style so I could use the practice. Please let me know what you think. P.S. like the Zorro pieces a lot, too bad they didn't publish it.

I'm always excited when I find a real professional comic artist here! I've always felt that traditional painting has a quality to it that just can't be matched digitally. If you have time would you mind giving me some feedback? Thanks. [link]
